ripcharlotte - a Poem by Brian Colliton (rezerp)

Fetch me the sun

Fetch me the moon

Fetch me the sky

Fetch me all the stars in June

Away from a throne

Away from a crown

Away from my people

And away from this town

Become one with nature

Become one with the trees

Become one with the sky

Become one with the seas

Away from the choas

Away from the confusion

Away from the evil

And away from the illusion

You’re losing what you see

You’re losing what you feel

You’re losing what you think

And you’re losing what is real

Time for a change

Time for a evolution

Time for some hope

And not a bullshit revolution

The New Renaissance

Love to the People that matter - what better way to achieve that than to bring some culture to this god-forsaken town? I’ve decided on something - on the blog, I will now be posting about the culture that’s happening around here, in order to bring more attention to the last things that really matter in this town. If any of you here followers write a poem, make a piece of art, record a song, whatever, feel free to submit it to this here blog, and I will give proper credit if I decide to post about it. It will be our own little local newsletter in a way. A local Renaissance.

Algebra in Life Situations

One thing that’s been on my mind lately, is how much the mathematical world relates to the world that people create for themselves. Take one example:

1*(-1)=-1

A positive number multiplied by a negative number makes a negative answer. Now, let’s apply this to a real life concept.

Depressed dude

Now, see what I did there? Negative person X Positive person = Negative relationship. Let’s thing of the multiplication sign in those images as “dating”. So, sad person dating happy person equals negative relationship. To me, it’s interesting how Algebra and real life situations are related.

If we change the formula in algebra, it still seems to be true in a real life situation. For example…

Negative person X Negative person = Positive relationship. Simple math, you see?

Early Closing

Now, the monitor brightness experiments have ultimately come to an early and obvious conclusion: a bright monitor will irritate the computer user. I decided to come to an early conclusion with this experiment, mainly because it seems as if the question itself is only common sense, and because I will not be able to make a report for every night I use the computer. Besides, I’m sure some sort of research on this has already been done by some sort of big-time scientists many miles away.

And you say: but what kind of experimentalist quits an experiment early on?

And my answer is: Me, because the theory and hypothesis themselves just don’t need to be experimented on to begin with.

However, I will continue a blog on social interactions. I will try to remember to post the things I notice and think about on the blog, while keeping a dimly lit monitor, of course.

The Shoutout to Outcasts (Monitor Brightness Experiment Day 2)

One thing that is always on my mind is “what motivates people for trying to act cool, and what are the standards for cool?”

Now obviously, some people are just simple incapable of ever being popular, while some were born cool. What I’m going to be looking at in this update, is how acting, dressing, and overall being a certain way will affect you socially.

Cool Kids

What sets the standard for cool? Usually, a cool kid is cool for a reason, which may include doing bad or dangerous things. Why are dangerous and edgey people so appealing to teenagers? For one, teenagers and young kids love pumping their testosterone and adrenaline for reasons unknown. It’s just an unwritten law of nature. People that do edgey things may become socially accepted because they excite other people. The thing that motivates people to be popular is that they usually have well-defined problems, and see being popular as a way of finding comfort.

Outcasts

Now, what sets the standard for an outcast? Anybody would say the same answer: A kid that doesn’t talk to many people, dresses differently, relatively unattractive, and avoids dangerous situations. The Cool Kids consider these people to be lame, but in my opinion, these are the people that have got any sense left. The Outcasts don’t need to partake in these twisted popularity contests.

As I was typing this, I made a realization:

My depressed friends are outcasts at heart that don’t want the popularity they are getting.

Derp. How obvious was it to realize that?

Now, also considering I’m thinking more clearly than yesterday, I feel like the Monitor Brightness Experiment concepts were just simply retarded to begin with, and this new realization is the key to solving the depression and giving love to the people. Then again, what if the newset dullness of my monitor is helping me to think more clearly? I will continue to Brightness experiments, but once they are finished, I will be seeking new ways to isolate the Outcasts-at-heart away from the Popularity-Contestants.

Today’s Report (Monitor Brightness Experiment, Day 2)

Right now, my monitor is set at the middle brightness level. Although several other factors may be playing a part in it, (ie, my energy levels, time of night, etc.) I feel like the thoughts are starting to come through slightly easier. It may just be the placebo effect, becuase truthfully I can’t even tell if there is much of a difference at this point. A pre-conclusion I’ve came to is that the brightness of the monitor can irritate and stimulate a person’s eyes, making them irritated, and causing negative moods over extended periods of use. After this week of experimentation, I will try a seperate experiment that involves using the computer for several hours at night, web browsing, etcetera, and see how my mood turns out in the morning (possibly) due to the brightness levels of the monitor.

The Purpose of the Blog (Monitor Brightness Experiment Day 1)

Once again, it is extremely difficult to think clearly at the moment, but this sums up what I am currently thinking.

It seems as if lots of my close friends are going through some form of depression, even some of the happiest people I know have been afflicted in some way. My primary goal is to find this problem, and try to relieve everyone I know of it. My first hypothesis, is testing if technology has anything to do with this depression. Although it could be a number of things, (colder weather, for example) it seems as if everyone feels the way I do. Several of my close friends that I have talked to said they feel irritable, and as if they’re starting to dislike everyone except for a few close friends. The way in which I think the internet and Facebook plays a role in this, is that people are making highly annoying Facebook posts, typically from the people they are starting to dislike, and they are growing more attached to the people they like, typically ones they message a lot and have been long friends with.

Now obviously, not everyone I know is being afflicted with this depression, and these people are the ones that are making irritable Facebook posts. What I’m going to try, is to get my depressed friends away from technology for a period of time, and see how their moods change. It may be considered cruel if these experiments produce negative effects, but in the end it will be working towards a happier group of people. Like I said, the internet is a drug, and taking the addict away from it will produce unknown effects.

Not only do I think technology plays a role in this, but here are some other things that I think may be affecting the mind of people.

1. Cold Weather - Seasonal Affective Disorder

2. A Town Without Culture - Many of my friends appreciate music and such, and this town is certainly not known for it’s culture.

3. Fourth Sense - An occult power that is somehow depressing us all, which is going to take many complicated experiments to determine.

I plan on doing these other three experiments in this order, the easier ones coming first. For the Internet Experiments, I will take many depressed people and tell them to gradually turn down the light of their monitors, and eventually stop using the internet for a short period of time. After that short period of time, I will tell them to begin using the internet again, and see if their mood changes. For the Cold Weather Experiment, I will take surveys on how depressed people feel about Winter, and see if any of these results are comparable to my own ways of thinking. I will also see if moods will begin to get better by springtime. For the Culture Test, I will take anonymous surveys from public areas asking people how they feel about this town, and whether they are depressed or not. If these experiments fail, I will begin the Fourth Sense test, and will ask people about their personal philosophies (ie, religous views, political party, etc.)
